THIS YEAR: A 9-time NAIA All-American, senior Staphon Arnold returns for his final season at Azusa Pacific and returns his focus to the high jump ... Arrived in 2007 as a skilled high jumper with speed and has developed into a good heptathlete last year ... Has cleared the fourth highest jump in program history (6' 10 3/4") and ran the third leg on the tenth fastest 4x100-meter relay (40.89) for a Cougar quartet ... Has expired his indoor eligibility and will begin competing for the Cougars when the outdoor season starts in March ... Is a key figure in the Cougars' quest for an NAIA title.

2010 (senior): Competed only in the indoor season but was quite impressive in helping lead Azusa Pacific to its fourth straight NAIA indoor crown ... In his first-ever season of competing in the heptathlon, finished third at the NAIA championship meet, behind teammates Casey Stevick and Jeff Altizer with 4,864 points ... Along the way, set the NAIA heptathlon records in the long jump (22' 10) and high jump (6' 3 3/4") ... Also, was fourth in the indoor open high jump with a career-best effort (6' 11 3/4") ... In all, accounted for 10 of the Cougars' 71 championship meet points ... Cleared a personal-best 7' 0 1/4" in a meet at Concordia for the second-highest high jump in Azusa Pacific history ... Sat out the outdoor season, redshirting the campaign in preparation to compete in 2011.

2009 (junior): Played a key role in Azusa Pacific sweeping the NAIA indoor and outdoor championships for the second consecutive year, tallying 4 All-America honors in the process ... Finished fifth in the high jump at both the NAIA indoor (6' 8 3/4) and outdoor (6' 9") championship meets and collected a surprising sixth in the NAIA outdoor long jump (23' 8") in his first-ever year competing in that event ... Ran the third leg on the Cougars' 4x100m relay that finished fifth at outdoors (40.89) ... Scored 21 points in the GSAC Championship Meet between the high jump (6' 9"), long jump (22' 5 3/4"), 200m (21.64) ... In a mid-season meet at UCLA, cleared a career-high 6' 10 3/4" in the high jump, becoming only the fourth Cougar ever to jump higher than 6' 10".

2008 (sophomore): Played an unsuspecting yet pivotal role in Azusa Pacific capturing the NAIA indoor championship by the narrowest of margins in meet history ... Collected a pair of All-America honors and none was bigger than his fourth-place finish in the high jump (6' 6 3/4), in which he tied with 3 other athletes, thus earning 1 3/4 point (the Cougars won the title by 3/4 of a point) ... Garnered his other All-American honor by running the third led on the Cougar 4x400 relay that finished sixth (3:18.54) ... Qualified for the NAIA outdoor meet in the high jump but did not advance to the finals with a leap of 6' 7" ... At the GSAC Championships in Azusa, won his first ever conference titles by taking the high jump (6' 8") and finished second in both the 200- (22.10) and 400- (49.17) meters.

2007 (freshman): Put together a fine 2007 freshman season in which he garnered his first All-America honor with a sixth place finish in the high jump (6' 8 3/4") at the NAIA Indoor Championships ... Qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the high jump but did not advance to the finals ... Cleared a career-best 6' 9 1/4" in opening outdoor meet at Point Loma Nazarene, posting the seventh best high jump in Azusa Pacific history ... At the GSAC Championships in Fresno, finished second in the 200 and third in the high jump.

HIGH SCHOOL: Competed 3 seasons of track & field for head coach David Furman at Colony High in Ontario, Calif. ... As a 2006 senior, was the state runner-up in the high jump, clearing 6' 9" ... Was the CIF Southern Section Division II high jump champion (6' 7") ... As a 2004 sophomore advanced to the CIF high jump finals.

PERSONAL: Born July 2, 1988, in Pasadena, Calif. ... Parents are Brian and Monique Arnold, both Azusa Pacific graduates ... Has 2 brothers (Devin, Domonique) and 2 sisters (Mercedes, Martianna) ... His father was a 2-time NAIA champion and 11-time All-American at Azusa Pacific from 1984 to 1988, establishing a reputation as the finest 400-meter hurdler in program history ... He was also a member of 4 NAIA outdoor national championship teams ... Majoring in graphic design ... Plays the guitar and draws ... Served as a resident advisor as well.
